Using laser marking to engrave optimal patterns for in‐plane displacement and strain measurement

The checkerboard constitutes the best pattern for in-plane displacement and strain measurement because it maximizes image gradient. use of laser marking to deposit such a on flat surfaces is investigated in this paper. Optimal settings parameters influencing quality are given. This being periodic, images processed with localized spectrum analysis, which one spectral techniques used process images. It shown that metrological performance terms resolution equivalent obtained transferred checkerboards. Compared classic transfer technique generally patterns, benefit using its ease use, much higher print speed fact thin coat white paint instead thicker layer adhesive employed ensure good contrast Various examples measurements given, particular field around knot embedded wood specimen subjected tensile test.
